PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- PBS Kids recently released some tips for parents to talk with children about creating a caring and inclusive space.

“Raising our kids to take a stand against racial injustice starts at home,” the newsletter states.

The newsletter also provides kid-friendly resources to tackle tough topics like racism, fairness, and inclusion, including these discussion topics:

  • It’s natural to notice race and recognize other differences. Ask your child: "How are we the same? How are we different?"

  • Share a story about a time when you had to stand up for yourself because you were being treated unfairly. Start the conversation by simply asking: "How did you feel?"

  • Start a discussion around race by asking: "Do you think racism might make it harder for Black people to become important leaders? Is that fair?"

  • Think about how we can work to be more inclusive. Ask: "When we see something unfair what are ways we can stand up for others?"

PBS Kids also provides a video to help begin the conversation.
